A commercial traveller, of Prestwood, aged 72, and his wife, aged 71, will celebrate thir golden wedding next Wednesday. They are Mr. William John Gilks and Mrs. Kate Gilks of Kenilworth, Prestwood, who were married at All Saints Church, Norfolk Square, London.
Mr. Gilks was born in Kimble, but left his native village at the age of 19 to go to London, where he eventually joined the Metropolitan Police Force. He met his wife in London. She was a country girl, her home being at the little village of Filkins, in Oxfordshire. As a policeman Mr. Gilks was stationed in "C" Division, Piccadily, for 10 years. His service, which extended over some 27 years, included a period at Epsom. He concluded his police service at Bow Police Station, where he was pensoned off. Mr. and Mrs. Gilks came straight to Prestwood to live and Mr. Giulks went into business as a commercial traveller.
They have three children, two sons and a daughter. They also have two grandchildren.
