      Well-known in the Kimble area, Mr. Joseph William Barnard died suddenly at his home, "Woodside", Butlers Cross, on Friday. He was 77.
      Mr. Barnard had lived at Kimble for more than 40 years. He was a Londoner, but moved to Bucks after his marriage, 44 years ago. He lived at Beaconsfield before coming to Kimble.
      He was a craftsman and worked for many years as a manufacturing jeweller in the family business in London. He was trained by his father who had learned the trade in Switzerland and Germany. He helped in the business when he was only 10 years old ... He retired in 1940.
      Mr. Barnard was also knowledgeable about clocks and had a fine collection. During the years he lived at Kimble, he alwats wound the clocks at Chequers and those in the Stewart Hall at Kimble and the Village Hall at Butlers Cross.
      He leaves a widow, two sons and five grandchildren.
      Cremation was at Oxford on Tuesday, followed by interment in Great Kimble churchyard.
