The funeral service for Leonard Wilfred Benyon, founder and managing director of Central Garage, Princes Risborough, took place at Princes Risborough Prish Church on Tuesday.
Mr. Benyon died suddenly at his home in Wycombe Road, Saunderton, last week, aged 64.
The son of a Kimble haulage contractor, Mr. Benyon's first job was cleaning and servicing cars in a building in his garden. From this small start he built the garage into a large concern.
During the second world war he converted and repaired vehicles for ambulance and fire services, and later vehicles for the D-day landings.
General Eisenhower was supplied with three staff cars by Mr. Benyon and a car supplied to Max Miller during the war is still in existence today in an American museum. George Formby also acquired a car from Mr. Benyon.
He leaves a widow, three daughters and seven grandchildren.
